Tanky T-80BV vybavené spalovací turbínou (GTD) se dobře hodí pro provoz ve velmi náročných klimatických podmínkách arktických oblastí, Sibiře a Dálného východu. V modernizované podobě budou vybaveny novým generátorem, modernějšími bateriemi a novým startovacím systémem turbíny. Osádka bude moci při bojové činnosti spoléhat na systém řízení palby Sosna-U s přístroji s termovizními kanály, vysoce přesnými laserovými dálkoměry a systémy automatického sledování cílů. Ochrana bude zesílena instalací nejmodernějších bloků dynamické ochrany.
